Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone is a medical procedure that is used to remove abnormal cervical tissue. It is typically performed after a colposcopy and biopsy have revealed the presence of precancerous or cancerous cells on the cervix.

During the LLETZ procedure, Dr. Corona uses a thin wire loop with an electrical current running through it to remove a small section of tissue from the cervix. The procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia and the tissue sample is sent to a laboratory for further testing to determine if any cancerous or precancerous cells are present.

LLETZ is an effective treatment for early-stage cervical cancer or precancerous cells and is often recommended as a way to prevent the development of cervical cancer. The procedure is generally safe but some potential risks and side effects include bleeding, infection and scarring. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of LLETZ with a healthcare provider before undergoing the procedure.

After the LLETZ procedure, a person may experience some mild cramping, discharge, and bleeding for a few days but recovery is generally quick and most people are able to return to normal activities within a week. Follow-up appointments will be necessary to monitor healing and ensure that no further treatment is needed.
