Is Hair Restoration with PRP right for me?
Have you looked in the mirror recently and seen that your hairline is definitely thinner than it used to be? Or when you brush your hair in a particular way you need to adjust your style because you are noticing balding patches? Perhaps you are seeing more of your scalp than what used to be there or you are seeing more hair than usual in your brush or in the bottom of the shower or sink? Super frustrating right?!
Hair loss can be a truly irritating and troubling condition. Both men and women suffer with varying degrees of thinning hair and hair loss. Hair loss can be due to a number of factors including aging, hormone changes, and even stress can cause hair to fall out. When supplements and hair growth products are not enough it’s time to look for other solutions with proven results to restore the hair. With medical advancements, it is now possible to boost your hair thickness and rejuvenate the scalp without a surgical hair transplant thanks to platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, therapy.
What is PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an injectable treatment that uses the components of a person’s own blood to stimulate hair growth. Platelets are very small cells in your blood that are involved in the clotting process. When PRP is injected into the damaged area it causes a mild inflammation that triggers the healing cascade. As the platelets organize in the tissue they release a number of enzymes to promote healing and restoration of tissue. They have also been shown to promote hair growth and begin producing strong, thick, healthy, hair again. With this treatment on the scalp it amplifies the body’s natural repair system while stimulating growth and to help restore and repair the hair follicles. Again as this is your own natural blood , utilizing this treatment virtually eliminates any chance for an individual to experience an allergic reaction or for the body to reject the treatments.
Who is a good candidate for Hair PRP?
Anyone experiencing any form of hair loss, including both men and women, are essentially good candidates for PRP injections; however studies have shown that the best candidates for PRP therapy are those whose hair loss is recent since it can be difficult to revive long-dormant hair follicles. Ideally, a patient’s scalp will feature areas of so-called “weak-quality” hair growth where functioning hair follicles remain. In most cases, patients who are completely bald may not experience all of the benefits associated with PRP therapy since it is unlikely to regrow all of the hair that has been lost. PRP therapy may also be beneficial for women who experience traction alopecia, thinning hair that results from wearing braids, ponytails and other styles that pull out the hair.
What should I expect at my first treatment in the clinic?
A medical professional will use a PRP Kit to draw the patient’s blood and spin their blood in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma. Next the doctor will inject the highly concentrated platelets, which contain cytokines and other growth factors into the patient’s hair follicles and hair roots. Using the patient’s own blood plasma increases the blood circulation to the hair follicles helping the growth of new healthy hair. When Will I See Hair PRP Restoration Treatment Results?
The first result that patients usually note is decreased hair shedding, followed by early regrowth and increased length of hair. Repeating treatments every three to six months on a long-term basis are optimal for continuing to stimulate the growth factors and stem cells that are associated with regrowth and stopping hair fall out.
Each patient’s hair regrowth pattern is different but most Hair PRP Restoration Treatment patients will begin to see some new hair regrowth within a month or two – with more dramatic results appearing between 3 to 6 months.
How much does PRP for hair loss cost?
