Look for the seal!

We get asked all the time what is a Menopause Specialist?

The truth is, just as you would seek a specialist for any other form of medical care, when it comes to menopause, perimenopause and post menopause it is important to find a Practitioner who has taken the time to be specifically trained in the issues of menopause health and understand the latest science and treatment options in this area of medicine.

While the designation “menopause specialist” isn’t recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, there are ways to tell if your doctor has a good understanding of menopause care.

NAMS, or the North American Menopause Society, is the largest non-profit organization devoted specifically to the health of women in midlife and beyond. NAMS offers a training and certification that is considered to be excellent and reliable.

If your doctor is a NCMP (NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner), you can rest assured they have had quality training and have had to skill up and take an exam to achieve this certification.

If your doctor is not a NCMP, that doesn’t mean they aren’t qualified to deal with menopause issues; you may just want to conduct a bit of your own research.

BioConnect Medical Centre is proud to have the first Certified Menopause Practitioner in Barbados. Certified by the North American Menopause Society ( NAMS), Dr. Corona underwent specialized training in menopause management and has demonstrated expertise in this area. This training and experience sets her apart from other doctors who may not have the same level of expertise in menopause-related care.

NAMS specialists have a deep understanding of the physiological, psychological, and social factors that impact women’s health during the menopause transition and beyond. They are familiar with the latest research and treatment options for menopause-related symptoms, as well as the long-term health risks that women may face during and after menopause.

NAMS specialists provide comprehensive care that addresses the many physical and emotional changes that women may experience during menopause. Holding this certification along with her many other credentials as an Obstetrician /gynaecologist as well as a fertility specialist, Dr.Corona will help women manage common symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and mood changes, as well as provide guidance on maintaining bone health, reducing the risk of heart disease and breast cancer, and promoting healthy lifestyle habits.

By working with a NAMS specialist, you can be confident in receiving individualized care that is tailored to your unique needs, preferences, and medical history. Dr.Corona will help you navigate the many challenges and changes that come with menopause, promoting a healthier and happier life during this transitional time.

Look for the NAMS pin on her coat, it changes every year – she wears it with pride!
